Bucky O’Connor Youth Tournament 

Bucky O’Conner graduated from Newton High School in the early 1930’s. He went on to coach the Iowa Hawkeyes leading them to the Final Four in both 1955 & 1956. The second-place finish in 1956 is tied for the best performance in Hawkeye basketball history. Bucky O’Conner was tragically killed in a car accident at the age of 44.

The Newton YMCA will be hosting a 3 on 3 Youth Tournament to honor the late great Newton High School Graduate and Iowa Men’s Basketball Coach, Bucky O’Connor.

Who: 3 rd -8 th grade boys and girls as of the 2023/2024 School Year
Divisions: Separate boys and girls in 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th 7 th and 8th grade*
Where: Newton YMCA Gyms & Berg Middle School
When: Saturday, July 15 Fee: $50 per team
