Coordinator‘s Notes:

Let no one be slow to seek wisdom when he is young nor

weary in the search when he has grown old.

The arts are alive and well at our Newton YMCA! Under the creative guidance of our Art & Craft Coordinator, Melinda Worthington, this department has flourished and become an integral part of our holistic approach to serving the needs of people in the Jasper County area. We truly believe that “Happiness lies in the joy of achievement and the thrill of creative effort” (FDR) Our goal is to introduce people to the arts and help individuals expand and grow as artists.

Our programs are designed to explore the various facets of the arts in all age and ability ranges, so that everyone can feel that “thrill of creative effort” and the joy of achievement. Our facilities include a pottery wheel and kiln, darkroom, and and all arts and crafts supplies, as well as classroom space. Classes are diverse and ever-changing, and suggestions are always welcome! Programs range from preschool to adult, from “Advanced Painting” to “Mad Scientist”. We feature “inter-generational” art classes, as well as contributing to the health and welfare of people in our area through community service projects. Children and adults explore music, literature, crafts and the fine arts in a context of diversity, acceptance, and Christian compassion.

There’s literally something for everyone in the arts department at the Newton YMCA! What are you waiting for, come try something new, or see if you “still got it”. Everyone is welcome!
